Democracy is definitely a realistic option, however it does require participation from the people in order to be successful. To strive for perfection is not realistic because it is not possible to reach a perfect democracy. In order for this to occur there would have to be a unanimous agreement on all issues and ideas by all of the people. This is not achievable due to the fact that people are so different when it comes to governmental ideas and will not simply agree on everything. Democracy is realistic as long as people do their part and participate. The book makes some very valid points when they talk about how the "various dimensions of inequality affect the opportunities citizens have to participate effectively in making political decisions [and] having their interests adequately represented" (The Politics of Power, p384). All in all I believe that democracy is very realistic if the appropriate steps are taken to ensure that their is active participation from the people.

I like this cartoon because it delineates the disinterest that is present when it comes to voting. People are just not interested in government and that is a detriment to the development of democracy because the whole idea of democracy is a rule for the people by the people.

Upon first loading of this blog into my browser window, it’s obvious you have created a very organized, and well laid out blog. Your mission statement is easy to locate and well written, providing for the reader, a clear cut statement of who you are and what this is about. I found it refreshing that you attempt to make no political statements in your ‘About Me’ or initial post, simply stating that you have no prior political preconceptions, but are simply excited to learn and see where this class, its discussions, and this blog leads you.

Your layout is simple and easy to navigate for the reader, with each blog posting accompanied by an appropriate visual aid pertaining to the subject at hand. However, the true strength of this blog is within the content of the posts themselves. I find your posts to be quite valuable and full of well thought out information, all stated in a mature manner along with your own personal opinion, thoughts, and feelings, and backed up by well documented references. I particularly appreciate this most recent post of yours on the future of democracy, as it concurs with much of what I posted on the subject, but in a much cleaner, less eloquent manner than I was able to put it.
I am equally pleased that my gripes about your blog are few. Any criticisms I have are purely constructive and more of a nit-pick than anything. A separate area set aside for blog review postings is always a nice touch. As well as including a little more of your personal feelings within some of your blog posts. You do good job saying what your opinion is based on what the book had to say, but I wouldn’t have minded one bit (I actually would have liked it) if you digressed every now and then to rant a little. Letting out your deeper more personal feelings on the subject.
Overall I believe you’ve created a very solid blog. Oh one more thing that is just more of a pet peeve of mine but you did a wonder job of is spelling and punctuation. You did a wonderful job of forming actual sentences. You have no idea how happy this makes me! You are quite thorough and have a knack for detail, although, I wouldn’t expect anything less from an accounting major.
Tina’s blog is very organized and I like the way she formatted and laid it out. Tina introduced herself and gave background on where she is from, where she is going, and what she believes. I find it interesting that Tina is from Bulgaria and has experienced different forms of government. When you come to Tina’s blog, there is no obvious affiliation to a specific party and she gets her point across and shares what she feels in a quiet non pushy way.
ReplyDeleteThe formatting of Tina’s blog is easy to follow and read. The color contrast works and it is easy on the eyes. I like the she has a picture of herself, it’s always nice to put a face to a name; she uses animations/cartoons to share a message and get the point of her post across. Tina does a great job referencing her sources and sharing her thoughts and opinions.
I would like to see more color on your blog. You use really great illustrations and points and I think more color would keep the reader more interested. Overall, there is not much to improve on. I think more color would brighten up the page.
Overall, Tina did a great job on her Blog. It is very organized, easy to read, and allows the reader to understand what message she is trying to get across. Tina followed the criteria and provided her readers with cartoons and illustrations to get the reader to relater. I enjoyed reading your blog and learning about you.
